walking in town, I was very surprised when all of a sudden, the vendors on the street quickly started packing their stuff and hurriedly leaving. I was standing in confusion and turned to see guys in uniforms holding sticks walking around! by the smug look on the face, it was obvious that they enjoyed the privilege of sacking the street beggars n seeing the vendors beg for their properties! it was very sad when days later, a friend of ours told us that during the night, her small shop that contains her goods had been raided and ransacked. she had lost all her little commodities that she sold to make a living! its bad enough that the income inequality in Kenya is bad. but for city council to be instructed to sack street hawkers is more disturbing! hawking is not necessarily good, yes! but if the government is not going to do something to raise the income inequality and give people a better chance at having a better life, then they should not disrupt their business. the gap between the rich and poor is too bad. thus for the city council to have the mandate to disrupt the small ways people use to earn a living, its just terrible
its bad enough that all this is happening, and for the government to say they do not have money is another story, I mean if 2.5 billion is going into Kenya @ 50. then what are they saying? people should realize that God gave enough resources for man's need not man's greed! I understand the need to have an extravagant celebration due to the fact that they have come far. but if there should be celebration, it should be only if they have actually accomplished something! if the economy is worse than it was 50 years ago, then I don't understand what the pride is about. well, vision 2030 is indeed a good roadmap to development and a good way of achieving the nations goals, however if government expenditure is not controlled and channeled into areas that will actually benefit the economy, then vision 2030 will just be well, another "desire". if Africa will develop, we really have to start thinking outside the box! period
welcome! enjoy!
